泰勒麦金托什 is set to graduate in spring of 2023. Through Pacific, he landed an internship with the fifth-largest winery in America and top 10 U.S. wine supplier, Delicato Family Wines in Manteca, California. He believes his real-world experience and background in engineering management will help him find success post-Pacific in intellectual property law.

What motivated you to study at Pacific?

Staying close to home was a huge factor, but there were a multitude of reasons. There were many scholarships available to help relieve the financial burden of college, and I was selected to be a part of the Freshman Honors Program. 另外, engineering management allowed me to combine my two interests, business and engineering.

What is Pacific’s CO-OP program?

The cooperative education experience (CO-OP) program is one of the most valuable components of the engineering management program. You get work force experience while also receiving college credit. Many of my classmates already have jobs lined up months before graduation because of the CO-OP and the real-world experience gained from it.

Can you describe your internship?

I landed my internship with Delicato Family Wines through an engineering management class students are required to take prior to their CO-OP. I was a project manager, so I worked directly with company stakeholders and contractors to find solutions to various problems. I learned how to communicate with contractors to control timelines and work with constrained budgets. 例如, I designed a new production line to make the machines that fill wine bottles more efficient. 整体, I had a great experience at Delicato, and it made me more excited to start working after college.

How would you describe your Pacific experience?

I am so grateful for my time at Pacific. From the professors to the resources available, I feel like they’ve prepared me well for life after graduation. Experience is one of the biggest factors employers are looking for, and through the CO-OP and my senior project, I was able to gain much.

I am also a member of Tau β, an honors engineering society, and I participate in intramural soccer. There are a lot of different clubs and organizations you can join to ensure you have a great social experience too!

What can you say about your Pacific professors?

One of Pacific’s strengths is their professors. They are easy to get a hold of and form personal connections with because of the small class sizes. At larger institutions you must go through a TA, so it’s nice that at Pacific I can directly talk to my professors, who are also experts in the industry. They can even help you find internships and jobs through their connections.

大声喊出博士. Luke Lee’s engineering dynamics class. His lectures were engaging, and he really went the extra mile for all his students.

What is next for you?

毕业后, I will be taking a gap year to work and prepare for the LSAT, and then I will attend law school in-state. My long-term goal is to become an intellectual property attorney, so my background in engineering management will be beneficial when working with patent law.
